AJRAKH Hand-Block

Ajrakh Hand-Block printing is a traditional craft that originates from the Indian subcontinent. This ancient art form involves printing intricate geometric and floral patterns onto fabrics using natural dyes, often employing a distinctive blue and red color palette.

This process of printing is labor-intensive and requires multiple stages of dyeing and resist printing, using carved wooden blocks to create symmetrical designs on natural fabrics such as cotton and silk,often taking up to 16 days to complete. Ajrakh is noted for its use of natural materials like indigo, madder, and tamarind, which help create its rich, earthy tones. 

This craft has been passed down through generations of artisans from Kutch, Gujarat.

Ajrakh colors are traditional and often earthy, featuring shades like Indigo Blue, Crimson Red, Dark Green, Black, White, and Mustard Yellow. They are unique and  reflect a rich heritage in textile artistry.
